The University of Colorado Denver Hospital
The University of Colorado Denver Health Sceince Center is a campus of institutions that houses the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy, Medical Technology School, and the Child Health Associate Program. Internationally respected for its teams of medical specialists, the University of Colorado Hospital ranks among the top hospitals in the nation in many specialties evaluated in the U.S. News and World Report's annual survey of "Americas Best Hospitals." It is a major referral center to the Rocky Mountain region. The University Hospital's mission is to foster excellence in medical education while actively supporting ongoing research in numerous areas of study.
The University of Colorado Hospital is a 350-bed institution with a full complement of housestaff and fellows, representing all major specialties and subspecialties, available for consultation at any hour of the day. It serves as the teaching hospital for the UCHSC. The University Hospital has a specialized burn ICU and also maintains a 24-hour catheterization laboratory.
The University Hospital ED is a Level II Trauma Center which serves a wide range of patients from the local area, as well as patients from throughout the Rocky Mountain Region who seek medical care specifically at the UCH for complicated ongoing medical syndromes or transplant related issues. It also serves as the region's only major burn center. UCH has approximately 55,000 annual visits to the ED per year. Of these, 55% are medical, 26% surgical/trauma, 15% OB/GYN and 4% psychiatric. Clinical experiences at the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado Hospital represent an opportunity to provide diverse care to a large range of patients with complex medical issues and chronic medical illness, as well as those with special medical needs.

PROGRAM INFO 


The University of Colorado moved in 2007 to its new Anschutz Medical Campus (previously know as Fitzsimmons) in Aurora. This mile square medical campus includes the new Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion and the Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine. This is a brand-new, 21st century academic health center, conceived with the revolutionary idea of incorporating patient needs into the design and construction of the buildings, and is equipped with the finest amenities and most advanced medical treatments available. The expansion and careful integration of the University's clinical, educational, and research space will serve as a model for major academic medical centers around the world. Residents work in the 36-bed emergency department in this new building.
